Course Feature Meter
E-learning products today contain a wide range of features. Many features are generally expected to be included in all courseware. Other features, such as those listed below, are valuable but are not always included in all courses.
To let you quickly compare various course offerings, we have created the Feature Meter to help you instantly gauge how many high-value features are included in a course.
10 values measured by the Feature Meter:
- Rich-media
- The training employs audio with motion graphics or video to convey course material. This generally provides a more stimulating presentation that retains learner's attention.
- Immediate and Specific Remedial Instruction
- The training provides specific and immediate remedial instruction when the learner provides an incorrect response to a learning assessment. This greatly improves the effectiveness of the instruction by giving individualized tutoring the moment it is needed.
- Comprehensive User Navigation
- The course features forward/reverse controls, bookmarking, and other user controls that allow personal navigation choices. This helps keep learners attentive by letting them set the pace and direction of the training.
- Time-delayed Follow-up Review
- The training provides a review of course questions and remedial instruction of materials not mastered in prior sessions. This feature greatly enhances the transfer of newly acquired knowledge to the learner's long-term memory.
- Lesson Interactions
- The course involves the learner by requiring the individual to interact through a question, scenario, decision or comment that reinforces and enhances learning. A minimum of three interactions within the instructional presentation must be present for this feature to be scored. Active learner involvement in the instruction raises the effectiveness of the training.
- Topical Index
- The training includes a list of individual course topics which plays all media related to that subject. The ability to browse course content and follow paths of interest accelerates learning for many users.
- Glossary of Terms
- The course features a list of common words and/or phrases used within the course and their definitions. This can be a great aid to understanding.
- Narrated Questions
- The training narrates test questions. This feature is a welcome support to learners with reading, language, or comprehension deficiencies.
- Closed Captioning
- To compensate for loud environments, language issues, and learners with hearing impairments, the training offers text to accompany course video.
- Multiple Bit Rates
- The course offers alternative media files optimized for network connection speeds; an important capability when playing rich media over a busy internet connection.
