Managing Non-Mastery Training
Use Training Manager and STARS to add a little Mastery Advantage to your other training. Maybe one day all your training will be delivered on the Mastery Platform, but let's be practical. There will always be some courseware publisher who doesn't offer a version of their computer-based training (CBT) product on the Mastery Platform, or some training that is only offered as instructor-led. You can give these courses some of the Mastery Advantage too. These non-Mastery courses can still be included in Training Requirements processing and STARS learner records can be created for courses taken and completed.
Non-Mastery Training setup
![]()
This button in the "Courseware" folder of Training Manager lets you set-up non-Mastery courses for Training Requirements and STARS reporting.

You can add new non-Mastery courses to this listing or make changes to courses already there. You can even transfer the setups to other training stations if they are not on a network.

If the course you are adding is a computer-based course, the Mastery Runtime System can run it from the Course Listing. Enter the program name and any program options that may be required. That's it! If you want to automatically create STARS course completion records for the course based on learner access, just click the box in the "Learner Data" section.

Use this entry area if the course you are adding is instructor-led, self-study, off-site seminar, or other form of training that cannot be accessed on a computer from the Mastery Course Listing. The course offering will appear on the Mastery Course Listing. When the learner selects the course title, an information screen is displayed showing the contact and message you entered here.
Automatically included in Training Requirements
After you have setup your non-Mastery courses, they are available for assignment to learners in the Training Requirements subsystem. Even retraining rules can be defined for the course so that the system can automatically keep up on retraining assignments. See Screen shot
Included on the Course Listing
All your training assignments, including non-Mastery CBT and instructor-led courses appear on the worker's individualized Course Listing. This is the main communication vehicle for keeping individual workers updated on the status of their own training requirements (filled and unfilled). See screen shot
STARS data is automatically created
By just clicking the "Automatically record completion data" box when you setup the non-Mastery CBT course will cause the Mastery Runtime system to create a summary completion record for the course when the learner accesses it from the Course Listing. See screen shot
If you want to record more detail, you can manually record the completions of non-Mastery CBTs the same way you record instructor-led completionsthe "Enter Completion Data" button in Training Manager (next section).
STARS data can be entered manually for other Non-Mastery Courses
Entry of course completions for instructor-led training is very easy. Just select the attendees, select the course title, enter the completion data and date, then click "Enter Data". It's that simple. See screen shot
Of course you can give your other training the full Mastery Advantage
Setting up non-Mastery courses to be administered by the Training Requirements and STARS systems adds a great deal of value to your existing non-Mastery training. But you can have even more! Find out how you can convert your other training materials to the Mastery Platform making them full-fledged interactive multimedia courses.
