Overview

Laboratory workers come in contact with hazardous materials every day. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), part of OSHA's hazard communication standard, explain how to work safely with chemicals, but MSDS's are not always user friendly. OSHA adopted the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). This system makes it easier for workers anywhere in the world to understand chemical hazards because GHS Safety Data Sheets (SDS) have a consistent format and are written in understandable language.

This training video shows viewers what and how GHS SDS's information is presented. The material's identity, hazards, and emergency instructions are first. Next comes basic safety information, and last, the chemical's technical data.

Watch this video to learn about GHS Safety Data Sheets, and make your lab a safer place to work.

This course has been updated to include GHS container labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for GHS compliance.
