Overview

This training addresses the importance of GHS (Globally Harmonized System) Safety Data Sheets for people that work on site with chemicals.

There are many risks and hazards using chemicals, and the Safety Data Sheets give a universal explanation on how to properly store and work around the chemicals, clean up spills and deal with exposure emergencies, including skin and eye contact. They used to be written in technical language, for only chemical manufacturers, but now OSHA uses the GHS (Globally Harmonized System) of classification so anyone in contact with these chemicals can understand it. The United Nations recognizes this as a system anyone in the world can use, and most industrialized countries use them already.

This training explains what Safety Data Sheets are and why they have been made universal. The major sections are; MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) and GHS Safety Data Sheets, Hazards, Emergencies, and Handling Materials. A data sheet contains sections about toxicology, ecological, and disposal considerations, transport information, regulatory information (Federal or state information), and a final "other" section for those that did not fit in any other category. This is an important training to understand the importance of the Safety Data Sheets and how they can easily guide workers with the safety procedures necessary for working with chemicals.
