Overview

This video explains the purpose of and demonstrates the correct use of safety showers and eye washes. Work sites where employees come in daily contact with hazardous chemicals should readily have available eye washes and safety showers.

This online training video demonstrates how water in safety showers and eye washes should be potable and have a constant flow at full capacity. Equipment should be routinely checked to ensure basic Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards are met. Employees who may have to use either one of these safety devices should be trained on how to find them in case of an emergency.

Employees should run the water on the affected area for at least fifteen minutes to eliminate harmful or life threatening damage. Another point discussed in the video is the importance for employees to become familiar with the type of chemicals they work with or around. They should refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) to find out the risks posed by an exposure to the skin or eyes.

It is critical employees are comfortable using safety showers and eye washes before an accident occurs, the quicker an employee can react during an emergency the better the outcome. Use this online training to ensure workers understand how to maintain and operate safety showers and eye washes.
