Overview

Approximately 40 million adults in North America have a substance abuse problem. Workers who abuse drugs or alcohol have a negative impact on the workplace by affecting safety, productivity, quality, and morale. This training course shows employees how to identify and respond to substance abuse in the workplace.

Viewers learn some of the signs and symptoms of substance abuse, such as slurred speech, unsteady walking, confusion, and erratic behavior. Workers with a substance abuse problem put themselves and others at a higher risk of accidents and injuries, are unable to keep up with the demands of their job, and frequently develop tense relationships with co-workers.

If drug or alcohol use seems to be affecting someone in their workplace, employees can refer to their company’s Drug-Free Workplace Program or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for guidance on how to report it. Workers with a substance abuse problem are encouraged to seek assistance voluntarily. This course shows employees when it might be necessary to intervene and then how to confront a co-worker.

Complete this safety training course to learn how to help create and maintain a drug-free work environment.
