Overview

This video discusses the Best Management Practices (BMPs) in preventing storm water pollution for municipal employees who keep streets, parking lots and storm drain systems clean. Two of BMPs that are discussed are Material Management and Parking Lot and Street Cleaning. Both of these BMPs call for MS4s to be conscious of how they handle materials that could potentially pollute the storm water system.

Large amounts of storm water runoff from rain and snow are common to streets and parking lots. Small leaks from vehicles can cause water pollution over time. That's why MS4 employees have to know the correct protocol when street cleaning and replacing lines in the streets. They have to protect the storm inlets when doing their jobs. The video points out how to cover the storm inlets and how to dispose of any street debris in the proper area.

All the BMPs are put in place to protect the storm water system. Debris can get caught in the storm system, but with the proper cleaning, handling, and disposing storm water pollution can be minimized.
