Overview

Healthcare workers are twice as likely to suffer from Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) than other workers. MSDs develop when people make small stressful motions repeatedly, over time. MSDs include muscle strains, low back pain, tendinitis, rotator cuff injuries, sciatica, and carpal tunnel syndrome. This online safety training course explains what causes these injuries and teaches healthcare workers how to prevent them from occurring.

Some of the patient handling tasks that caregivers routinely do include the following: moving a patient from a bed to a chair; repositioning them; and transferring them from a stretcher to a bed. Viewers are taught how to do these tasks in a way to reduce the stresses placed on the musculoskeletal system during the process. For example, when caregivers are repositioning patients, they should slide them instead of picking them up.

Viewers also learn about mechanical lift devices, and when to use them. The devices include floor-based, full-body sling lifts; sit-to-stand lifts; and overhead full-body sling lifts.

Complete this health and safety training course to learn how to safely move patients without risking injury.
