Overview

Every day, thousands of people like you risk injury while on the job, yet they go home safely when their shift is over. Why is that? It is because they have protected themselves from injuries by wearing PPE, or personal protective equipment. Simply speaking, PPE is anything you wear to prevent injuries. It can be as a simple as a hard hat or a pair of gloves. To ensure you are getting the most out of your PPE, it must be the right PPE for the work you are doing, and you must know how to use the PPE correctly. This course demonstrates how to correctly select and wear PPE for the construction industry.

To ensure workers remain as safe as possible OSHA has created a list of standards regarding the use of PPE. They require all employers must make available the correct PPE for the job at hand, as well as provide training on why PPE is important and how to correctly use the PPE given. There are various kinds of PPE depending on the job you need to perform; there is PPE for your legs, eyes, head, and respiratory system, among others. If you do not know what to use, or how to use it, the chances of you being seriously injured, or worse, on the job are dramatically increased.

While the PPE varies from job to job, there are some general requirements that hold true regardless of the PPE required. For example, you must wear your PPE whenever you encounter a hazardous situation, which could include dangerous procedures, environmental hazards, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, and mechanical irritants. The kinds of PPE required, as well as an explanation of these specific risks, will be explained here. Utilize the information presented in this training and understand both the importance of using PPE, as well as which PPE to use in any given situation.
